Silent-Yachts, the innovative Austrian builder, just announced that it will launch its new three-deck 62 solar-electric catamaran at the Cannes Yachting Festival in September.

The new 62 is Silent’s first three-deck model, and the extra deck provides a lot of additional space. It’s based on Silent’s popular 60, which was introduced in 2021 and won a Multihull of the Year Award and a Best of Boats Award.

With its reverse bow and longer waterline, the 62 offers three different layouts for the new, third, deck. One is an open sky lounge, another is an enclosed sky lounge, and the third is an owner’s suite. The first 62, the one displayed at Cannes, will have the open version.

The new 62 will have a front-exit flybridge deck with a bar, gallery, dining table and bench for up to a dozen people plus the upper helm. Lots of sofas and lounging areas will provide room for relaxing.

Accommodations below include four staterooms, with twin or double berths, all with their own heads and separate showers. There’s also a crew cabin.

The new 62 has the same powertrain as the 60, with 42 powerful solar panels delivering up to 17 kWp. The self-sufficient cat gets its propulsion from two 340-kW electric motors, a 150-kW diesel generator and a 286-kWh water-cooled lithium battery, all adding up to unlimited range with no noise, fumes or vibration. All on-board systems can run without the generator.

Silent says the 62 can cruise up to 100 nm a day under solar power alone. But the generator can recharge the batteries when owners want to cruise at higher speeds for long periods of time, or when weather conditions are bad for several days.

Large open social spaces are built into the foredeck and the aft deck. The hydraulic swim platform can hold a tender up to 13’ 7” long, but it’s really built for Silent’s own electric Tender 400. Read more:
