Greenline 58 Fly: New Hybrid Power

The new Greenline 58 Fly hybrid will make its debut at the Cannes Yachting Festival in September. The 58 represents the start of a new partnership involving Greenline, Marco Casali of Too Design, and MICAD engineering.

Casali drew a fresh exterior with clean lines for the new 58, and MICAD worked with Greenline on a new hybrid power system with a pair of 25kW electric motors and an adaptable hydraulic clutch that can be connected inline to any shaft-drive engine.

Power options start with twin Cummins diesels from 610- to 715-hp, available on their own or with the hybrid drive. The Cummins 715-hp engines with the hybrid system deliver a top speed of 26 knots, and the boat can cruise under just electric power at 6 knots for a range of 30 nm.

With more powerful 1,000-hp CAT diesels and the hybrid drive, the Greenline 58 will top out at 30 knots and cruise at 23 knots. Its performance under electric power is the same as for the Cummins.

Greenline is a world leader in sustainable power, building its first solar-powered boat in Slovenia in 2008. The new 58 Fly has an array of 11 solar panels on the flybridge and hard top to produce 3.6kW of power; that’s enough to run all the boat’s systems at anchor without turning on the generator.

The standard 58 Fly has three cabins on the lower deck – a midship master, a VIP forward, and a twin-berth guest cabin on the starboard side. All have their own heads. A four-cabin layout is an option.

The main deck is on the same level from the helm to the transom for easy movement underway or at anchor. The galley is aft on the port side of the salon, so it connects easily to the cockpit, which has a slightly different seating arrangement with benches on the centerline so everyone can have a view of the water. The high-low table there can be converted to a sun bed for lounging.

The cockpit has a glass balustrade aft, while the extended hydraulic swim platform includes a crane with a 1,100-pound lift capacity for a tender.

Up top, the flybridge houses the upper helm, a large, U-shaped seating area, a wet bar, and an open space aft for free-standing furniture.
