Explore the Beautiful Waters of Palau

If you want to see some of the most beautiful water in the world, head for Palau in the western Pacific. An archipelago with 340 islands, Palau is a nation in Micronesia, east of the Philippines and north of New Guinea.

If that’s a bit far for your own boat, you can book one of the 11 cabins on the 129-foot Four Seasons Explorer catamaran. It has a draft of just 5’ 2” so it can reach a lot of the diving spots that larger boats can’t, and it has two tenders and a dive boat that can go just about anywhere, from Clam City, a diving spot with clams that weigh more than 250 pounds, to Rock Islands’ Southern Lagoon, a UNESCO World Heritage site with complex reefs and 13 species of sharks.

Palau is full of life. On shore, it has 185 species of birds. On the water, its 93,000 square miles of marine territory are home to 1,400 species of fish and 500 species of coral. The Explorer does not have a set itinerary; it changes its route depending on the weather and guests’ desires. It can offer three dives a day, including all the equipment you’ll need. You also can snorkel the reefs of Blue Corner and German Channel and search for the elusive mandarin fish. Or you can take a RIB for a castaway-type picnic on a remote island.

The Explorer has three decks, with indoor and outdoor dining, two bars, a library, a sundeck and a private outdoor massage area. It was built by Image Marine in Australia, and originally served as a dive boat. Now you can relax in one of the ten 215-square-foot cabins with a king-sized bed and private bathroom, or book the 484-square-foot Explorer Suite with its own sundeck and seating areas.
