Fairline, the British luxury yacht builder, just introduced its Squadron 58 at the Düsseldorf show last month, and the innovative flybridge yacht with twin balconies and a creative beach club aft won the Best Motoryacht Up to 60 Feet Award given by Motorboat and Yachting.

“The stern arrangement in the Squadron 58 is a true game-changer,” the award said. “It features a cockpit with a glazed transom, modular furniture, drop-down terraces and a foldout-bar with a pair of stools that can be relocated to the port side. Things are equally enticing on the inside. The playful integration of angles transforms the ambiance of the new 58, creating quietly diverting points of interest that its competitors simply don’t possess.”

The new Squadron 58 is an easy yacht to like. You can walk all around it on teak side decks, and relax on the two large seating areas on the foredeck. There are almost 360-degree views from everywhere on the main deck, where the salon is filled with light. And the interior is designed to create a sense of calm, with neutral colors, oak wood floods, lacquered cabinets and vertical slatted timber details. And the three-stateroom, two-head yacht has generous headroom in the salon and on the lower accommodations deck, adding to the sense of space.

The salon has two seats facing the helm on the starboard side, with a sofa a bit aft. A U-shaped sofa and table are to port, with the L-shaped galley aft, so it can serve the aft deck as well as the salon.

The aft deck has flexible modular seating; the transom is made of glass to connect to the water and guarantee unobstructed views aft. Hydraulically operated balconies fold down on both sides to double the usable size of the aft deck. The swim platform can be submerged for water sports.

Below, the master stateroom is full-beam amidships, with a sofa on the starboard side and a vanity/desk to port. It has an en suite head. The VIP cabin is forward, and the guest cabin, with twin berths, is aft to starboard. The VIP and guest cabins share a head.

Standard  power comes from 900-hp Volvo D13s with straight shafts, producing a top speed of 31 knots. Optional 1,000-hp Volvos notch the top speed up to 32 knots.
