Williams Launches SOLAS-Approved Tenders

Williams Jet Tenders just launched the first models of its 18-foot DieselJet 565 and 20-foot 625 models with SOLAS approvals, meaning they are fully certified rescued tenders under the International Convention for the Safety of Life at Sea.

The certification means the standard Williams tenders  have been customized to meet the SOLAS requirements and testing, which include a three-meter drop, self-righting capability and an endurance trial.

For owners, it means they can have all the advantages of a high-quality Williams DieselJet tender plus the safety and rescue capability recognized by the SOLAS certification. A yacht owner would not have to buy a separate rescue tender or RIB if he or she had the SOLAS-approved version.

The DieselJet 565 holds nine people, is 18’ 8” long with a 7’ 9” beam and is driven by a 150-hp Yanmar with a top speed of 44 mph. The DieselJet 625 (pictured) is 20’ 8” long with a 7’ 11” beam and is driven by a 195-hp Yanmar with a top speed of 46 mph. The 16’ 5” DieselJet 505 already has SOLAS certification.

Matthew Hornsby, Williams’ commercial director, said that with the SOLAS certification, “We offer yacht owners a unique blend of style and substance ensuring peace of mind in rescue operations and daily operations.”

Williams was founded in 2004, and has developed the world’s first four-stroke jet and turbo-powered tenders. It now makes 17 different models in its factory in Oxfordshire in southeast England.

In a separate development, MarineMax, the retail giant with 82 dealer and 66 marinas around the world, just announced that it has bought Willliams Tenders USA, the Pompano Beach, Florida, company that distributes Williams in the U.S. and Caribbean. The purchase will greatly increase Williams’ visibility and presence in the U.S.
