New Luxury Marina Coming to Bahamas

A massive luxurious marina and resort is being developed in the Bahamas, at the southwest point of Great Abaco Island. Called Porto Habacoa, it’s meant to be a stopping point for yachts traveling from the U.S. to the Caribbean, cruising in the Bahamas, or just as a destination in its own right.

The location, at the intersection of the Northwest and Northeast Providence Channels, is on the main cruising route in that part of the world. It’s about 160 nm east of Fort Lauderdale, and 50 nm north of Nassau. It’s also next to Abaco National Park, with 20,000 acres of undeveloped forest.

The Habacoa development, set to open in 2027, will include the marina, a yacht club, an 18-hole golf course, a 50-room hotel, and luxury real estate for 250 residents.

Zaha Hadid Architects in London have designed the yacht club, night club and casino. The yacht club occupies 250,000 square feet in two glazed structures connected by a twisted concrete roof that the firm says evokes “the fluid movement of waves and direct cooling sea breezes.”

The marina concentrates on superyachts but will  have 150 slips for boats from 60 to 700 feet. The channel entry is 26 feet deep, and depth inside the basin is 18 feet, a welcome relief from the shallow waters that dominate the Bahamas. The marina also will have a turning circle of 880-feet.

A dry stack will hold 200 vessels, and the marina will have top-of-the-line amenities for yacht owners and crew. Provisioning will range from the basics to high cuisine.

An airport will be 24 miles away for private air traffic.
