The Krogen 60 Open from Kadey Krogen Yachts is a massive 60 footer that combines true ocean crossing capabilities with the live-aboard comforts couples and families need for long range adventuring.
The Open concept was first employed in the 50 Open a few years ago. The ”open” in the name refers to the lack of a fixed, full-height bulkhead at the aft end of the pilot house so the salon, galley and pilot house flow together and a create one huge social living area.
There is still a dinette aft and the dinette and bench settee in the pilot house, but the spaces and the people in them are joined.
That said, there is a retractable panel between the pilot house and the salon so crew standing watch at night can operate in night-vision red light while the rest of the gang will have full interior lighting.

The 60 has many of the design elements of the 50. The sheer has a pleasant spring and the bow is sharp and has a modest flare. There are raised bulwarks on both side decks and solid stainless steel rails around the bow area and aft leading into the cockpit.
The flying bridge sits on the cabin top neatly and with a hard T-top, this raised steering and social area can be made weather tight with isinglass and canvas enclosures. The aft end of the bridge is the boat deck where you can carry a good-size dinghy that is hauled and launched with a mechanical crane.
On the broad stern, the swim platform takes up the full beam and has been made wider. Note the stainless steel rails that will make climbing in and out of the dinghy easier, particularly for older crew.
Below decks, the master suite makes good use of the hull’s 19-foot, six-inch beam which makes room for a full king-size berth and a large head and shower. The VIP guest cabin is in the fore peak and there is a twin-berth cabin between them. Both guest cabins have en-suite heads. A crew cabin can be added aft of the engine compartment as an option.
Krogen yachts are all about long range cruising and ocean crossing. To that end the 60 Open is powered by twin 200-horsepower John Deere diesels and carries 1,800 gallons of fuel. At 8 knots making about 190-miles a day, it will have a safe range of more than 2,200 miles. At seven knots and steaming about 160 miles per day, you can stretch the range out to a whopping 4,000 miles.
Kadey Krogen has been in the trawler-cruising game since 1976 and while the boats have been refined year after year and the quality steadily honed, they have never lost sight of their essential vision. In an age when design trends shift like the wind, this slow and steady approach has enduring value.
