Greenline Yachts, the Slovenia builder that’s at the forefront of the electric- and hybrid- power revolution, is launching a new Greenline 48 Coupe at the Düsseldorf show in January; it will be introduced to the U.S. at the Miami show in February. The 48 Coupe is modeled after the company’s 48 Flybridge model, and comes after customers said they wanted a large coupe-style boat. Because of its coupe configuration, the new 48 has an array of 2.4kW solar  panels on its cabintop, providing the equivalent power of a small generator running all the time. The solar panels provide enough power…

This wicked-looking 36-foot center console with a revolutionary hull design is now under construction at the Front Street Shipyard in Belfast, Maine. The new SBX36, hull number one of the new Sea Blade X line from Navatek Ltd. of Honolulu, will be ready for sea trials in the spring. The Sea Blade X hull is built of fiberglass with a foam core; the boat has a T-Top and an inflatable Hypalon perimeter tube. The stepped V bottom hull, with outer sponsons for stability, was originally designed for the military, and is being used by law enforcement in Hawaii. The boat…

By Peter A. Janssen It looks like Bertram has hit a home run with renderings of a beautiful new 50 Express, scheduled to be launched next spring. The 50, the company’s first express in many years, comes as Bertram is enjoying a remarkable turnaround under new leadership and a new plant. Indeed, the 50 will come on the heels of the successful launch of a new 61 in 2017 and the introduction of a new 35, meant to be a modern interpretation of the iconic Bertram 31, in 2016. Bertram once was one of the most celebrated brands in offshore…

Walking down a dock filled with trawlers and Downeast boats at the recent Fort Lauderdale International Boat Show, something new (at least new to me) caught my eye. There, in an area filled with Sabres, Grand Banks, MJMs and Hinckleys, was a Norseman 48, a traditional-looking trawler with clean and classic lines that was almost beckoning me to step aboard. This Norseman, brought to the show by Schooner Yachts of Fort Lauderdale, is a twin-diesel, two-stateroom, two-head relatively fast trawler with a standard trawler layout and enough teak to keep a traditional trawler owner happy. Powered by two 440-hp Yanmars,…

A Swedish company, Candela, is building what it calls the first all-electric boat with the speed of a traditional gasoline-powered vessel. The Candela Seven, a foiling “e-boat” made of carbon fiber, has a top speed of more than 30 knots and a range of 50 nm at 20 knots, according to the company. The first boats will be delivered by next spring. The boat is powered by a 55 kW electric motor and a 44 kWh lithium ion battery. It can be recharged with a 230V/16A or 110V/34A household outlet. A full charge takes 12 hours. It runs on hydrofoils…

Helmsman Trawlers is introducing a new 46 Pilothouse, the first in its Expedition series. The largest Helmsman to date, the new 46 Pilothouse, powered by a single 490-hp Cummins diesel, is designed as a sturdy, efficient and comfortable long-range trawler. In the past few years, Helmsman has staked out a position in the marketplace where it delivers more boat for the money, and the 46 Expedition Pilothouse means to keep that promise. It is a low-maintenance trawler with simple systems; with a 1,500 nm range at 7.5 knots it will carry you to any cruising grounds you want to visit,…

Bruckmann just took the hull of its beautiful, classic Mark Ellis-designed Abaco 47 out of the mold in its plant in Ontario, Canada, so the new cruiser should be in the water by spring. The new Abaco 47, with its long sheer, low profile, sharp entry and raked windshield, is designed with the same proven hull form from the popular Bruckmann Abaco 40, which is remarkably efficient through a wide range of cruising speeds. The new 47 can be powered either by either a single 1,136-hp CAT C18 diesel, or by two 641-hp CAT C8.7s. Top speed with the single…

The new Vanquish 26 Center Console is a user-friendly, hand-crafted, all-purpose boat with a Downeast look and a fast, fuel-efficient and stable hull, all designed by Doug Zurn, one of the best in the business today. It has a long, straight sheerline, bow flare, generous tumblehome and enough teak accents to keep a purist happy, while its 53-plus mph top speed, driven by a state-of-the-art 250-hp Mercury Verado outboard, will give an adrenaline rush to even the most jaded boat owner. In its new 2019 model, Vanquish has added a modest forward cabin to the 26, making it a center-console-plus.…

Ocean Alexander is stepping way outside its box and is building a totally new line, called Divergence, a 45-foot luxury outboard powered by four 350-hp Mercury Verados. The new boat, being built at the old Sea Ray factory on Merritt Island, Florida, will be ready for the Miami show in February. So far, Ocean Alexander has earned a reputation for quality and customer service in the large yacht and megayacht worlds. Its existing lineup stretches from 70 to 155 feet. But the 40-to-50-foot segment is hot now, as is the outboard market. The new Divergence fits into both of those…

Sabre Moves Up. Here’s Much More About Its Big New 58 Salon Express, a 31-Knot Downeast Cruiser with State-of-the-Art Systems By Peter A. Janssen Sabre just started production of its newest model, the 58 Salon Express, a three-cabin, 31-knot cruiser that keeps the Maine builder’s traditional Downeast lines while adding state-of-the-art power and ship-control systems. The 58, which fits between Sabre’s 48 and flagship Dirigo 66, is scheduled to be launched late next year. The new Sabre has all the salty lines that have made the brand so popular in recent years: a clean, long sheerline, low profile and near-to-perfect…
