Avikus’ AI Nav System Wins Award

Hyundai’s Avikus autonomous navigation system just won an Innovation Award at the big Consumer Electronics Show, a recognition that will surely give a boost to the use of artificial intelligence in recreational boating, The award was in the Vehicle Tech and Advanced Mobility category, and it was for Avikus’ NeuBoat, already in its second phase of autonomous navigation. NeuBoat uses a Navigation Assistant System and a Docking Assistant System to navigate and dock in real time without human intervention. China Starts Sea Trials for Autonomous Ship

China just launched a fully autonomous, “revolutionary” research ship that is powered by artificial intelligence and that the director of the Southern Ocean Laboratory there calls a new “marine species.” The ship, Zhu Hai Yun, can carry drones, submersibles and smaller ships on its deck to carry out marine research, and can navigate the ocean waters via remote control. Brunswick Showcasing AI, Electric Power

Brunswick, the recreational boating giant, will be showcasing its move into Artificial Intelligence, autonomous driving and electric power at the Consumer Electronics Show that starts Jan. 5 in Las Vegas. New Mayflower: Lots of AI and No People on Board

The original Mayflower, the famous one, left Plymouth, England, on Sept. 16, 1620, and made landfall in the New World, near where Provincetown is today on Cape Cod, 66 days later. It was about 90 feet long, weighed 180 tons, and carried a crew of about 30 and 102 Pilgrims as passengers (including five who died along the way). New: Raymarine’s Revolutionary Automatic Docking Systems for Outboards on a Boston Whaler

Raymarine just moved its new, revolutionary autonomous docking system into the outboard market, introducing it on a Boston Whaler 330 Outrage with twin Mercury Verados (see picture above). It initially introduced the new artificial intelligence DockSense system with a Virtual Bumper last month on a Prestige 460 inboard-powered motoryacht at the Düsseldorf boat show.
