New Greenline 45 Fly: A Comfortable Hybrid Cruiser

The new Greenline 45 Fly, the latest addition to the Slovenian builder’s hybrid fleet, was just shown at the Miami boat show in February. It has many power options, but with Volvo’s IPS600 pod drives it tops out 30 knots. Under all-electric power, it tops out at 6.5 knots, but those miles go by in peace and quiet, leaving behind zero carbon footprint. The new Greenline is meant to provide lots of cruising comfort, with many social areas, a light-filled interior, and a basic two-stateroom, two-head accommodations plan. The hull and exterior design are by J&J Design in Slovenia, with…

New Sabre 58: A Big and Quiet Down East Cruiser

After following its launch and super-extended break-in cruise from Portland, Maine, down to Miami in time for the yacht show there, I had been looking forward to seeing the new Sabre 58 Salon Express in person. And once I climbed on board the boat at the show, it was more than worth the wait. I already knew the boat’s lines. It is a contemporary classic with a clean Down East look, fitting well into Sabre’s made-in-Maine heritage. But once I was on board, I realized how big this new cruiser really is; it has lots of usable room to make…

Palm Beach Launches Fast and Beautiful New GT60 in Miami

The gorgeous Palm Beach GT60, which just made its worldwide debut at the Miami show, is simply a treat. With its flowing low profile, long sheer line and elegant tumblehome, the new GT60 is certainly a treat to look it; it definitely qualifies as marine eye candy. And then it’s also a treat underway, with its high-tech, lightweight, warped hull, powered by twin 1,000-hp Volvo IPS1350 pod drives, producing a top speed of 43 knots and a comfortable cruising speed of 37 knots. As I walked through the boat at the show, Mark Richards, the Palm Beach founder and CEO,…

Burger is working on a new 50 Cruiser, with an aluminum hull by Vripack and an interior by De Basto Designs, in its yard in Manitowoc, Wisconsin. Wally Launches Stunning New 48 Day Cruiser in Cannes

Wally will launch its new 48 day cruiser, with its elegant, clean, Euro-style looks and its fold-down bulwarks, at the Cannes Yachting Festival, starting Sept. 10. Powered by twin Volvo IPS650 pod drives, the new Wally tops out at 38 knots, and has a range of 305 nm at 24 knots. The Wally  48 looks powerful and swift underway, but it comes into its own when it’s stopped, and you can fold out the aft bulwarks to expand the cockpit on both sides. In fact, when they’re down, you can walk all the way around the aft-facing sun lounges in…

New Zeelander 72: A Modern, 40-Knot, Dutch Masterpiece

Running down Narragansett Bay off Newport at 39.8 knots on an early summer afternoon, the only sound I could hear at the helm of the new Zeelander 72 flagship was the action of the water. After a few minutes, I realized that this iconic-looking, Dutch-built, low-profile cruiser was one of the most solid and smoothest-riding boats I’ve ever been on. It also was quiet, my sound reader showing only 72 dB(A) at that speed. At 13 knots (and who wants to go only 13 knots on this boat?), the sound level was 62 dB(A), the level of normal conversation. These…

New Absolute 58 Navetta: Aggressive Lines, Italian Styling and IPS Performance

The new Absolute 58 Navetta is an Italian-made cruiser with strong, aggressive lines and Volvo’s IPS pod drive performance. The contemporary European-styled interior is luxurious, bright and made for cruising comfort on board. The Navetta’s large hull-side and salon windows alone give the boat a distinctive look, but so does the plumb bow, the high topsides and super-sized swim platform. And there are major social and entertaining areas basically from stem to stern; it would be hard not to enjoy your time on this boat. You can walk on the 58 Navetta from the teak swim platform and up three…
