Nordhavn Finishing New 51 in Turkey

Nordhavn is putting the final touches on its first new 51 long-range cruiser at its plant in Turkey. The 51 is a larger version of the well-received 41 that Nordhavn launched in the summer of 2020. Both the 51 and the 41 are the first Nordhavns to be built in Turkey, where a streamlined production process does not allow for the individual customization that’s available on other Nordhavns that are made in Taiwan and China. The new 51 has two staterooms and two heads, a flybridge and an elevated pilothouse, all representing upgrades from the 41. Powered by twin 160-hp…

New, Cutting-Edge eVTOL for Yachts

If you’re looking for a new way to get on and off your yacht (after all, helicopters are so déclassé – and noisy), or you just want the latest over-the-top high-tech toy, consider the new Acro eVTOL, just unveiled at the Monaco yacht show. The eVTOL (electric vertical take-off and landing) concept was presented by Klissarov Design, a studio on the French Riviera that specializes in pushing the boundaries of vehicle design. It developed the eVTOL specifically for the yachting market, where the demand for new adventures (think personal submarines, high-latitude expedition yachts) has been growing lately. Weighing just 400…

Cruisers Yachts Plans New Flybridge Series

Cruisers Yachts just announced that they’re planning an all-new Flybridge series, an evolution of their popular Cantius line. The new Flybridge line will have three yachts, starting with  55 Fly. Cruisers says the 55 will incorporate new technology and will have a sleek exterior look, resembling a spaceship on the water. The look, the company says, was inspired by marine predators. The 55 Fly will be a new boat from the keel up. The interior was designed by Luiz De Basto of De Basto Designs in Miami; he usually works on superyachts. New Electric Hyperfoil Flies at 35 Knots

A San Francisco startup has launched a new Valo Hyperfoil, built with a combination of carbon fiber, titanium and stainless steel, that flies over the water at 35 knots, leaving no noise, emissions or wake behind. Boundary Layer Technologies, the company, says the Valo “is a high-performance, semi-autonomous, electric hydrofoiling vehicle with wings to fly above the water. Think of it as  jet ski, but 1,000 times more awesome.” The Valo Hyperfoil is about 11’ 6” long and weighs 595 pounds. It flies, or foils, at about 13 knots. Then it can fly for about two hours on a single…

Hurricanes Getting Stronger, Faster: New Study

Hurricanes in the Atlantic are growing stronger faster than ever before, according to a new study. Indeed, a hurricane is now twice as likely to grow from a weak storm into a major Category 3  (or stronger) hurricane in just 24 hours. The study, just published in Scientific Report, adds to the growing body of evidence that fast-growing major hurricanes are becoming more likely. Andra Garner, an assistant professor at Rowan University who wrote the study, says that from 2001 to 2020 tropical cyclones in the Atlantic had an 8 percent chance of strengthening from a Category 1 storm into…
