New Marina Coming Near Nassau in Bahamas

A new resort and marina is planned for Blue Water Cay, a bit southeast of Nassau, designed to be a gateway to cruising, fishing and enjoying life in the Bahamas. Construction is scheduled to start soon on the Legendary Marina Resort at Blue Water Cay on a 20-acre peninsula. The new marina will include state-of-the-art docks for boats up to 200 feet and hurricane-rated dry storage for 750 boats up to 55 feet with quick launch services. Denison Yachting will show the first hull of the Aegean Explorer 26M long-range cruiser series at the Cannes Yachting Festival starting Sept. 13. The second hull in the series is under construction at the Aegean yard in Bodrum, Turkey. New Powerdock With Solar Panels

Faroboats, a fairly new company in Lisbon, has a creative idea about how you can recharge the batteries on your electric boat. They’ve just launched the Faro Powerdock, a floating dock with solar panels.  The Powerdock will work with any electric boat, but it will charge a 16-foot Faro5 electric boat in less than three hours. The Powerdock’s roof holds four 450-watt solar arrays of four panels each, with a total output of 2.7 kW. New Leopard 40 Makes U.S. Debut

The all-new Leopard 40 power catamaran just made its debut in Fort Lauderdale, with a cruise along the ICW and a then a run over to Bimini. 101 Degrees in Florida Bay; Atlantic Near “Tipping Point”

Sea water temperatures hit a scorching 101.1 degrees Fahrenheit earlier this week for the first time in history off south Florida, threatening coral reefs and all marine life. Meanwhile, a new study says that the major currents in the Atlantic Ocean, including the Gulf Stream, could weaken and hit an irreversible “tipping point” as soon as two years from now, affecting sea levels and weather patterns in the U.S., Canada and Europe. Rescue Swimmer Wins Bravery Award

Caleb Halle, a Coast Guard rescue swimmer, will receive the IMO 2023 Award for Exceptional Bravery at Sea for saving seven crew members of a disabled tug in a storm off the coast of Maryland in January. The annual International Maritime Organization Award is the highest award for bravery in the maritime industry. The IMO received 47 nominations from its 18 member states for the award this year. Nordhavn Launching New 71

Nordhavn just finished its first new 71, the company’s largest long-distance cruiser built for an owner-operator, and it’s scheduled to splash at its factory in Taiwan next week. (The 71 actually was set to splash this week, but a typhoon got in the way.) After that, the 71 will head for its new owners, a couple in Seattle who are fairly familiar with the brand. Freedom To Open 400th Boat Club

Freedom Boat Club, which claims to be the world’s largest boat club, just announced that it will open its 400th club next month in Jupiter, Florida. Freedom now has 90,000 members in its locations across the  U.S., Europe, and Australia; about one-third are women. Cecil Cohn, the Freedom Boat Club president, said it would continue to expand its territory “as we continue to democratize boating by providing access and training to new boats.” Freedom has thousands of boats in its fleet; most are single-engine outboards.
