Metal Shark Boats just launched a unique 148-foot aluminum catamaran, an expedition yacht that has enough range to cross the Atlantic four times without refueling. It is the Louisiana yard’s first superyacht, and the first in a series of future long-range recreational cats. The new yacht is named Magnet, and Metal Shark, which makes commercial and military vessels, turned to Incat Crowther, a design firm with headquarters  in Sydney, for help. Incat Crowther specializes in designing large commercial catamarans. Powered by twin 2,600-hp MTU diesels, Magnet has a top speed of 27 knots. At its most efficient cruising speed of…

Marquis is putting the final touches on its new M42 cruiser with three 400-hp Mercury Verado outboards. The Pulaski, Wisconsin, builder launched the original M42 with twin 480-hp Cummins inboard diesels about a year ago, and it topped out at 40 knots. The new outboard version is expected to hit the 50-knot range. Once the M42 outboard is officially launched, the Verados will be the standard power on the boat, with the Cummins offered as options. The company said it was recognizing buyers’ preferences in moving to outboard power, particularly in this size boat. Donald Blount & Associates, the designer,…

Horizon has launched its new FD75, the entry-level model in its Fast Displacement series. Powered by twin 1,136-hp CATs, the FD75 hits a top speed of 20 knots and a cruising speed of 14 knots. Designed to be an owner/operator yacht, the FD75 has four cabins and three heads, a pilothouse and a flybridge, and a large full-beam master stateroom on the main level. It also has an unusual amount of interior volume, which was the goal of Dutch designer Cor D. Rover, who worked with Horizon to create the yacht. Horizon says the most significant aspect of its FD…

Moi Composites, an Italian high-tech startup, just introduced its 3D-printed fiberglass powerboat at the Genoa boat show. The boat, called MAMBO, for Motor Additive Manufacturing BOat, was made with Moi’s new continuous fiber manufacturing technology. Under a generative algorithm, Moi’s system deposits continuous fibers into a thermosetting resin to produce a material with the strength and durability of fiberglass but which is much easier to shape. The finished MAMBO vessel is 21.3 feet long with a beam of 8.2 feet and a weight of 1,763 pounds. It has a 115-hp outboard engine. The hull resembles an inverted triangle, giving it…

Monte Carlo Yachts will introduce its new 76 Skylounge at the Fort Lauderdale boat show that starts on Oct. 28. It launched the 70 Skylounge at the Miami show last February. The new skylounge on the 76 is a large, light-filled social space with windows all around and full-width glass doors opening out to an upper aft deck. It even has a skylight for more natural light, and ventilation. The skylounge basically functions as a second, all-weather salon, but with a better view. It also is the home of the yacht’s only helm station. It has a large L-shaped settee…

Sealegs, the New Zealand company that’s been making amphibious boats since 2005, is now making a 12M Cabin RIB, and Sealegs says the 38-footer is the largest amphibious production boat in the world. Powered by twin 400-hp outboards, the new 38-foot Sealegs can top out at 40 knots in the water, while its 94-hp gas engine will propel it to 5 mph on land. With hydraulic wheels and motors built into its 37-inch tires, the 12M Cabin is an all-wheel, all-terrain vehicle; indeed, it can climb a 25 percent grade. On the water, the new 12M Cabin RIB has more…

North Pacific Yachts is building a new, contemporary, Euro-styled 49-foot pilothouse trawler that it expects to launch this fall. It has more windows, more curves, and more interior volume than the company’s traditional 49 pilothouse model. “With the Euro, we are excited to offer an option that’s fresh and modern, with the highest level of quality that you’d expect on the best traditional trawler,” said Trevor Brice, the company’s president. The 49 Euro will come with many engine options, offering speeds up to 21 knots. The original 49, which North Pacific still builds, has a single 355-hp Cummins; it cruises…

Greenline is building a new 45 Coupe hybrid that it plans to introduce at the Düsseldorf show in January. It’s a sport version of the 45 Fly that made its U.S. debut at the Miami show last February. Powered by twin 440-hp Volvo IPS600 pod drives, the 45 Couple will top out at about 30 knots. Under  all- electric power, it can cruise at 6.5 knots, leaving no fumes, noise, vibration, or carbon footprint behind. An array of solar panels on the hardtop can produce at least 15kWh of energy on a sunny day, enough to meet the daily needs…

Hinckley is building a 35-foot outboard boat that looks pretty much like its iconic Picnic Boat, except for the twin Verados hanging off the stern. Indeed, says Scott Bryant, the company’s VP of sales and marketing, the new 35 “has the Hinckley curves, but with outboard propulsion.” The new 35, already under construction at Hinckley’s yard in Trenton, Maine, on the mainland just across from Mt. Desert Island, is not Hinckley’s first outboard boat. The traditional Down East builder introduced a Sport Boat series two years ago with outboards, first a 40c and then last year a 40x, with more…

Jeanneau just launched its all-new Leader 12.5, a 40-foot, two-cabin, multi-purpose boat that the company says is designed for family fun, simplicity and efficiency. With three 300-hp Yamaha outboards and a deep-V hull designed by Michael Peters, the Leader 12.5 tops out at 50 mph and cruises in the 35-mph range. The company’s flagship, the Leader 12.5 is built with social spaces all around, inside and out, with lots of flexible seating and sleeping space. You can climb aboard via an entry door on the starboard side. Push a button and the port bulwark in the cockpit folds out to…
