Faroboats, a fairly new company in Lisbon, has a creative idea about how you can recharge the batteries on your electric boat. They’ve just launched the Faro Powerdock, a floating dock with solar panels.  The Powerdock will work with any electric boat, but it will charge a 16-foot Faro5 electric boat in less than three hours. The Powerdock’s roof holds four 450-watt solar arrays of four panels each, with a total output of 2.7 kW. The all-new Leopard 40 power catamaran just made its debut in Fort Lauderdale, with a cruise along the ICW and a then a run over to Bimini. Leopards are made in Cape Town, South Africa, by Robertson and Caine. The company calls the new 40 a third-generation power cat, following the Leopard 46 and Leopard 53. Caleb Halle, a Coast Guard rescue swimmer, will receive the IMO 2023 Award for Exceptional Bravery at Sea for saving seven crew members of a disabled tug in a storm off the coast of Maryland in January. The annual International Maritime Organization Award is the highest award for bravery in the maritime industry. The IMO received 47 nominations from its 18 member states for the award this year. Halle’s story starts about 3:30 a.m. last January 14 when the Coast Guard received a call from the tug Legacy that had been towing a 290-foot barge from New Jersey to Guyana.…

Nordhavn just finished its first new 71, the company’s largest long-distance cruiser built for an owner-operator, and it’s scheduled to splash at its factory in Taiwan next week. (The 71 actually was set to splash this week, but a typhoon got in the way.) After that, the 71 will head for its new owners, a couple in Seattle who are fairly familiar with the brand. The Missouri State Highway Patrol says a high-performance boat somehow went airborne last Saturday night on the Lake of the Ozarks and crashed into the side of a house. The eight people on board were thrown from the boat; six, including the driver, had serious injuries. The Highway Patrol charged the driver, Adam J. Ramirez, 47, from Huntington Beach, California, with suspicion of boating while intoxicated. He was released for medical treatment. The accident occurred just before midnight. The boat, a 2014 Nor-Tech with three 300-hp Mercury outboards, was heading east and crashed into the home on the Osage Arm…

A 17-year-old lacrosse player was killed last Friday night when the Regulator center console she was riding in with five others crashed into a stone jetty on the north shore of Cape Cod and she was thrown into the water. The Dennis Fire & Rescue dive team recovered the body of Sadie Mauro, a rising senior at Dover-Sherborn High School, about 11:30 p.m. The crash was reported about 9 p.m. in a series of 911 calls after the boat hit the jetty in Sesuit Harbor in Dennis. Solaris just unveiled its 52 Open flagship powerboat that’s bound to get a lot of attention when it makes its debut at the Cannes Yachting Festival on September 12. The new Solaris Power 52 Open looks like a larger version of the Solaris 48 Open that won the European Powerboat of the Year Award three years ago and the 44 Open that was nominated for the same award two years ago. Solaris has been making sailboats in its Italian yard since 1974. It started a powerboat line in 2008 and now makes a Lobster Boat line and the Open line.…

The new Aquila 32 Sport catamaran provides an easy and comfortable platform for enjoying day cruises, water sports, picnics, or just a fun and social time on the water. Standard power is two 225-hp Mercury Verado outboards. With two or three cabins and two heads, the new, 42′ 7″ Antares can be powered by three 300-hp V8 Mercury Verado outboards, or two 400-hp V10 Mercury outboards.
