Riva Launches New Diva 82 Flybridge

Riva just launched its new Diva 82-foot flybridge luxury cruising yacht at the Cannes Yachting Festival. It’s the smallest model in Riva’s flybridge lineup, which goes up to the 130 Bellissima. Riva says the new Diva, with an eye-catching, swept-back windshield, offers a “revolutionary approach to the use of space.” Even though the flybridge is located fairly far aft (the Diva has an elongated foredeck), it is large enough for the upper helm, a lounge with a dinette and bar and sunbathing areas forward and aft. A carbon-fiber hardtop offers some protection from the weather. The salon, with large windows,…

Riva Launches Sleek New 76 Perseo Super

Riva just launched its sleek and glamorous new 76 Perseo Super at the Düsseldorf show in January, where it got a lot of attention, with at least one British magazine calling it “Europe’s coolest superboat.” It’s easy to see why. Rivas have been the boats of choice for kings and movie stars ever since Pietro Riva, a local craftsman, started the yard on Lake d’Iseo in northern Italy in 1842 (think King Hussein, Prince Rainier, Sophia Loren, Brigitte Bardot and Sean Connery in the past; today, George Clooney keeps one at his home on Lake Como). Riva won some awards…

The name comes from Lake Iseo, in northern Italy, where Rivas are made and where Riva is celebrating its 180th anniversary. “El-Iseo is a glorious new chapter in the challenge that only Riva can experience every day,” said Alberto Galassi, CEO of the Ferretti Group, Riva’s parent company, “that of combining its legendary history with cutting-edge technology to generate beauty and style that will never…

Riva Celebrates in Venice

Riva, one of the most glamorous boat builders in the world, and Venice, one of the most glamorous cities in the world, seem to go together. So it seems natural that Riva just held its over-the-top 180th anniversary there, a black-tie affair with its own movie premiere, a performance at La Fenice opera house, sports stars, and even the unveiling of a new limited-edition Riva Aquarama, the “Anniversario,” on the Grand Canal in front of the Riva Lounge in the Gritti Palace. Riva was founded in 1842, when Pietro Riva, a local craftsman, started repairing fishing boats damaged in a…

Riva Making New 68 Based on Iconic Hull

Riva, the iconic Italian builder, just announced that it’s making a new 68 Diable, based on the classic Riva Super America hull. Riva, now part of the Ferretti Group, plans to launch the 68 Diable in September. With Riva’s unmistakable lines, the 68 Diable has three staterooms, all with en suite heads,  and a 40-knot top speed from optional 1,650-hp MAN diesels. Standard 1,550-hp MANs produce a cruising speed of 33 knots and a top speed of 37 knots, with a range of 260-nm. Riva, the Choice of Stars, Makes a Movie

Riva and the movies. They go together. The iconic Italian boat and the iconic movie stars who’ve owned one. Think Brigitte Bardot (pictured above), Sophia Loren, Grace Kelly, even James Bond, back in the day. Today, George Clooney is said to keep one at his waterfront villa on Lake Como, although when my wife and I cruised by on a Hinckley a few years ago we didn’t see George or the Riva; maybe he was driving it somewhere else on the lake at the time. Now Riva, part of the Ferretti Group, is celebrating Riva’s ties to the movies, by…

Riva Comes Back with Sporty New 88 Lightning

Riva just launched its new, sporty Folgore (Lightning) 88 at its yard in La Spezia, the first new boat since the coronavirus devasted Italy. Alberto Galassi, CEO of the Ferretti Group (Riva’s parent company), said the boat was “a dazzling flash of style” and “a tangible sign of a country that starts again.” The company said the new Riva’s exterior was inspired by luxury sports cars, and the looks carry on Riva’s tradition of glamorous Italian design that dates back to Brigitte Bardot and the Riva she kept in St. Tropez in the ‘60s (see picture above). The new Folgore…

La Dolce Vita: Cruising Lake Como on an Iconic Riva – or a Hinckley

It would be hard to find a more romantic spot for a cruise than Lake Como, the absolutely gorgeous, pristine body of water nestled up against the Alps in northern Italy. Many of the little villages have been there since the Roman Empire, while today it is the home (occasionally) of an international jet set that includes George Clooney and Richard Branson. And its waterfront villas and hotels (think Villa d’Este) are some of the best in the world. A few years ago, my wife and I cruised there on a new Hinckley 29, and it was one of the…
