Hylas just launched its new M49 powerboat for sea trials. It’s the third powerboat in the Taiwan builder’s fleet, which already included an M44 and M58. A blue-water cruiser, the long, low, lean M49 is powered by twin 370-hp Yanmar diesels with straight shafts. Hylas is a semi-custom builder, and the M49 comes in two superstructure styles. The Cabriolet has classic windows in the salon, and a shorter overhang from the cabin top over the aft deck and a pull-out Bimini for added protection. The Euro version has a more contemporary shape to the salon windows and a longer overhang…

The new DutchCraft 56 is nothing if not versatile. With its spacious, open aft deck, it’s perfect for diving and watersports. And with its luxurious four-cabin, three-head layout below, it’s also inviting for comfortable cruising. Either way, you’ll get where you want to go in a hurry. With twin Volvo IPS950 pod drives, the DutchCraft 56 tops out at 40 knots. At 25 knots, it has a range of 500 nm; add the optional 1,188-gallon long-range fuel tank, and it has a range of 750 nm, also at 25 knots. The DutchCraft 56 is made, not surprisingly, in Holland, and…

The new Candela 7 all-electric foiling boat from a Swedish builder seems like a breakthrough on several fronts. First, it has a 30-knot top speed, unusual for an all-electric boat. Second, it has a range of more than 50-nm at 22 knots, also unusual for an electric boat. And the foils, controlled by a custom-designed flight controller with more than 90,000 lines of code, provide a smooth and stable ride, even in less than ideal sea conditions. (See the Candela in action in the video below.) Candela has been in business in Stockholm since 2014, and it’s been working on…

The new Cruisers Cantius 60, with its low, Euro-style profile and its raked windshield, is a large, three-stateroom cruiser that’s filled with light and cruising amenities. It also delivers a 33-knot top speed with Volvo’s IPS pod drives and joystick controls. The Cantius 60, along with a 60 flybridge, are the flagships of the Cruisers line. Built at the Cruisers’ factory in Oconto, Wisconsin, the Cantius takes advantage of some current trends, including its coupe-style design, the same-level walkway all the way from the transom to the helm, and a large (7 feet long) opening sunroof to let in even…

O Yachts just launched its first powerboat, Power Class 6, a “smart hybrid” that can run on all-electric power or on a combination of diesel and electric power. The 63-foot cat, made in Latvia, is innovative, spacious and extremely fuel efficient. In fact, it burns less than one liter (0.264 gallons) of fuel per mile at 10 knots. O Yachts says the boat underwent two years of testing in the Med to get the right combination of power. It has two versions. In the hybrid version, the company says the boat has a range of 3,000 miles. With a combination…

Nordhavn is putting the final touches on its new 41, and will launch it soon. The 41, the successor to the 40 that went around the world in 2001 and 2002, is the smallest vessel in Nordhavn’s fleet, and it’s the only one made in Turkey. It also has twin diesel engines, a bit of a change for Nordhavn’s smaller boats, instead of a single and perhaps a wing engine. Work on the 41 is almost complete, but the company needs permission from the Turkish government to launch it. Turkey has closed all marinas because of the COVID-19 pandemic, so…

Sun Concept, an innovative Portuguese builder, just launched its new CAT 12.0 solar-electric catamaran, and it has virtually unlimited range at 5 or 6 knots. At an 8-knot cruising speed, the CAT 12.0 can run a full day and end up with batteries at 40 percent capacity. It has a top speed of 14.5 knots, all operating under silent, sustainable solar and electric power. What’s particularly unusual about this new 39-foot cat is that it’s designed to be as adaptable as possible. It comes in a Lounge model, with open decks that can hold up to 42 people, and a…

If you like fast cars and fast boats, take a look at the latest design from Milan’s Officina Armare Studio – the sleek, head-turning A88 Gransport cruiser that brings to mind many of the design elements in today’s cutting-edge hyper-cars, such as the Lamborghini Huracán EVO Spyder, pictured above. Powered by twin 2,600-hp MTU diesels, the four-stateroom, 88-foot A88 tops out at 46 mph. The two-seat Lambo, with a 640-hp engine, tops out at 202 mph. But then its base price is just $287,400, which is probably less than the A88’s fuel bill for a season. But there’s no question…

The new Greenline 45 Fly, the latest addition to the Slovenian builder’s hybrid fleet, was just shown at the Miami boat show in February. It has many power options, but with Volvo’s IPS600 pod drives it tops out 30 knots. Under all-electric power, it tops out at 6.5 knots, but those miles go by in peace and quiet, leaving behind zero carbon footprint. The new Greenline is meant to provide lots of cruising comfort, with many social areas, a light-filled interior, and a basic two-stateroom, two-head accommodations plan. The hull and exterior design are by J&J Design in Slovenia, with…

Beneteau just launched its Gran Turismo 50 Sportfly, the new flagship of its popular sport cruiser fleet. It is the latest iteration of the Gran Turismo 50, which was introduced at the Miami show two years ago. The flybridge adds an entirely new social and navigating area to the boat, and opens up the potential buying market to people who enjoy entertaining and cruising up there. The Gran Turismo 50 Sportfly is designed by the talented Italian team of Nuvolari-Lenard. The basic boat comes in a two-cabin, two-head arrangement, with the galley down. It also is offered with a third…
