Volvo Penta and Groupe Beneteau just announced that they’ve formed a partnership to involve customers and dealers in developing their new hybrid-electric power systems for recreational boating. The two companies say they want immediate feedback so they can develop new technology that provides a quiet and sustainable power for boating in the future. Mercury Marine just introduced two new 350-hp and 400-hp 5.7L Verados, the industry’s first V10 outboards. They’re powerful, smooth and quiet, and they’re designed for a wide range of applications. The new  V10s weigh just 695 pounds, and have 26-inch mount spacing, the same as Mercury’s V8 outboards  They are compatible with most boat designs, either  for OEM applications or for repowering. Mercury now makes outboards in V6, V8, V10 and V12 configurations. The heart of the new V10 is its naturally aspirated powerhead with a quad-cam design. ZF Marine just unveiled its new pod propulsion system for the first time in North America at the recent Fort Lauderdale show. It’s already in use on an Azimut superyacht in Europe, but now it will be available here also. The new ZF 4600 POD system is designed for yachts form 80 to 130 feet with planing or semi-displacement hulls. It’s compatible with all major brand engines up to 1,700 hp. Evoy just launched its new Storm 300+hp electric outboard at the Cannes Yachting Festival; it’s the most powerful electric outboard in the world. Evoy, a Norwegian company, also announced that it’s formed partnerships with three boat builders, in a major move forward in the drive to replace fossil-fuel motors with electric motors that are quiet and produce no fumes or emissions. The market leader for high-performance electric motors, Evoy now makes inboard and outboard electric motors from 120-hp to 400-hp for recreational and commercial vessels. MAN will unveil its flagship V12X 2200-hp marine diesel at the Cannes show, starting Sept. 6. The new MAN has a significant 30-liter displacement and generates its 2200-hp (1618kW) at 2300 rpm. It’s the Munich-based builders most powerful engine for recreational boats. “The MAN V12X marks the next generation of yacht engines,” said Werner Kübler, MAN’s head of engineering. “The redesign of the MAN V12X is accompanied by extra displacement for shipyards. The move toward electric-powered outboard boats got a major boost today. Indeed, Group Beneteau and Vision Marine Technologies just announced that they’ve formed a partnership to put VMT’s electric-powered outboards on several of Beneteau’s brands, starting with Four Winns. VMT makes the E-Motion 180, which it says is the world’s most powerful electric outboard. The 180-hp outboard has a battery capacity of 70kWh of continuous power, enough to drive a typical day boat for a full day on the water. Mercury Marine just introduced a new series of three-cylinder, four-stroke 25- and 30-hp outboards that are lighter, faster and more user-friendly than ever before. The new outboards all have a 500cc powerhead with electronic fuel injection. And for the first time, electric-start models in both the 25- and 30-hp size come standard with Mercury’s SmartCraft digital technologies, so owners can connect to sophisticated digital gauges and mobile devices. A young, creative company that calls itself an “innovator for water-related fun,” ePropulsion, from Somerset, New Jersey, just unveiled its new, powerful H-100 electric inboard. The new motor will make its public debut at the Electric & Hybrid Marine Expo starting June 21 in Amsterdam. Rayglass Boats just announced they’ve built a Protector 410 Targa with twin 600-hp Mercury Verado outboards, the largest outboards ever mounted on a RIB (and Mercury’s most powerful production engine). Rayglass, a New Zealand builder, said they had to customize and strengthen the transom to handle the weight and torque of the massive V12, 7.6 liter displacement outboards. A new 600-hp Verado weighs 1,260 pounds.
