Coast Guard Cutter Healy at North Pole

At 420 feet, the Coast Guard Cutter Healy is the largest ship in the Coast Guard fleet. It was launched in 2000, has a beam of 82 feet and a draft of 29’ 3”, and a crew of 19 officers and 54 enlisted men and women. More important, it is a Polar-class icebreaker, designed to break 4½ feet of ice continuously at 3 knots and to operate in temperatures as low as minus 50 degrees. Arcadia Yachts just announced that it’s starting a new “A” series of motor yachts, ranging from 65 to 130 feet. Ever Forward Pilot on Cell Phone: Coast Guard

There’s a moral here for all of us. The Coast Guard just issued its report about the grounding of the 1,095-foot-long Ever Forward in the Chesapeake last March, and it’s devastating.
