Nouvoyage 33: Amphib Tender for Megayachts

For me, the Monaco Yacht  Show was always fun. Forget about playing James Bond at the Casino in Monte Carlo, the really outrageous action was down on the docks at Port Hercules, where the megayachts and the helicopters and the toys were usually way over the top. I’m not at the show this week – the pandemic and all – so I haven’t seen the latest, a 33-foot-long amphibious limousine tender that fits in the garage of a megayacht (a large megayacht). The new tender, the Nouvoyage 33, answers the problem of how to get from your jet to your…

Iguana Working on Fastest Amphib Yet

Iguana Yachts is working on its fastest amphibian yet, putting the finishing touches on a new 33-footer, powered by twin 450-hp outboards, that it hopes will hit 55 knots or so on the water. When it’s completed, the new boat will be “the fastest amphibious boat in the world,” Iguana says. World records about these kinds of things are a bit sketchy, but it seems that the world record for an amphibious craft is held by the WaterCar Panther that hit 52 knots in the water back in 2010. And that was a prototype; the production WaterCar Panther only went…

Sealegs Rolling Out 12′ 5″ Amphib, Smallest Yet

Sealegs, the New Zealand amphibious boat maker, just announced that they are developing a new 3.8m (12’ 5”) Tender, their smallest yet. Sealegs says it is taking orders for the new amphib now and will roll out the first production models in 2022. We don’t have a price yet. The 3.8 Tender, created to fit on larger cruising boats, takes exploration by tender to a new level. With a standard 40-hp Yamaha outboard, the 3.8m has a top speed of 34 knots on the water. But when you roll up to a beach or want to explore a new shoreline,…

Sealegs New 38: Largest Amphibian Yet

Sealegs, the New Zealand company that’s been making amphibious boats since 2005, is now making a 12M Cabin RIB, and Sealegs says the 38-footer is the largest amphibious production boat in the world. Powered by twin 400-hp outboards, the new 38-foot Sealegs can top out at 40 knots in the water, while its 94-hp gas engine will propel it to 5 mph on land. With hydraulic wheels and motors built into its 37-inch tires, the 12M Cabin is an all-wheel, all-terrain vehicle; indeed, it can climb a 25 percent grade. On the water, the new 12M Cabin RIB has more…

Iguana Launches New, Luxury Version of Amphibious RIB

Iguana’s amphibious RIBs made quite a splash when they were first introduced to the United States at the Fort Lauderdale boat show in 2019. And not only in the U.S. So far, Iguanas with deep-V hulls to cruise through the water and tractor drives to climb onto beaches on land, have been tested on all six continents of the world. Now, Iguana is launching a new, improved luxury model, called the Iguana Knight. After its initial success, said Antoine Brugidou, the French company’s founder and president, “Iguana experienced an unprecedented demand for a more luxurious RIB built to a higher…

New Iguana Amphibian Makes U.S. Debut at Lauderdale

Here’s a new boat that probably will turn heads on the water, but it certainly will get a lot of attention on land – the new, amphibious Iguana Commuter. Built in Caen, France, the new Iguana will make its U.S. debut at the Fort Lauderdale International Boat Show, starting Oct. 30. You can see it at the Super Yacht area of the show at Pier 66. With its deep-V hull and twin 200-hp Yamaha outboards, the Iguana tops out at 41 knots on the water. On land, its 15kWh electric engine and caterpillar tracks push it to a cruising speed…

Looking for a Second Boat? Try Sealander, at Home on the Road or in the Water

As its name implies, Sealander is a vehicle at home on sea or land, an amphibious aquatic camper that can be towed behind any mid-sized station wagon or SUV and then launched into the water where it can cruise around at about 5 mph. You definitely don’t want to take this out in a four-foot chop, but it would be a hoot to cruise around a quiet part of the Waterway or a nearby lake on a calm day. You’d certainly turn a lot of heads. Designed and made in Kiel, Germany, Sealander weighs about 1,100 pounds, is 13’ 3”…
