New 32-Foot Zar Formenti “Ferrari of RIBs” Now in U.S.

Here’s a new high-performance, high-style, Italian-built RIB that’s much more than a traditional RIB and was just introduced to the U.S. market at the Fort Lauderdale International Boat Show.  The Zar Formenti 95 SL, says company founder Piero Formenti, “is like the Ferrari of RIBs in Europe.” It’s easy to see why he thinks so. Italian Skipper Cruises His 36-foot RIB, Solo, to Newfoundland

Sergio Davi, a professional skipper and the captain of his water sports club in Palermo, Italy, just landed in St. Anthony, Newfoundland, having cruised alone more than 6,000 nm from home in his 36-foot RIB Nautilus Explorer. Davi, 52, who has previously made solo journeys on RIBs to Rio de Janeiro, Amsterdam and Norway, is waiting for a weather window and then he’ll resume his voyage to New York. He left Palermo on July 21, and headed north, past Portugal, Spain, France, the UK, Ireland and Greenland. He had to spend 10 days in Qaqortoq, in southern Greenland, because of…

Walker Bay has  just launched the first RIB in its new Explorer series, a 14-foot Venture, that is rated for eight passengers and tops out at 30 knots with a 70-hp outboard. Torqueedo and Zodiac have just launched a 31-knot, all-electric Avon eJET 450 tender, powered by a Torqueedo Deep Blue 55kW motor and a BMW i3 battery. The new Avon is quiet and does not use any fossil fuel. It is designed to appeal to the yacht market, where owners would not have to worry about carrying fuel or oil for the tender, but it serves equally well as a sport boat or a runabout. Front Street Shipyard Building Tough New Sea Blade X with Revolutionary Hull

This wicked-looking 36-foot center console with a revolutionary hull design is now under construction at the Front Street Shipyard in Belfast, Maine. The new SBX36, hull number one of the new Sea Blade X line from Navatek Ltd. of Honolulu, will be ready for sea trials in the spring. The Sea Blade X hull is built of fiberglass with a foam core; the boat has a T-Top and an inflatable Hypalon perimeter tube. Williams Jet Tenders is re-launching two of its popular Turbojet tenders at the Cannes Yachting Festival starting Sept. 11, and it also will introduce its new high-performance Sportjet 435. The Turbojet 285 and 325 have been two of Williams’ best-selling models since they were first launched in 2005.
