Inflatable Takacat: Creative, Fun, Tender

Here’s a fresh idea for a dink or tender or just a fun boat to have around, particularly when space is tight: The New Zealand-made Takacat, a catamaran-style inflatable with an open bow and transom that’s lightweight, compact, versatile and cost effective. The open bow is made for easy boarding from a mothership, or from the water if you’ve been swimming. And the fully removable transom keeps the boat dry, since water can flow out the back, while making it easy to pack the Takacat in two storage bags. Takacats come in six sizes from 8’ 6” to 15 feet…

Technohull Launches New 80-knot RIB

You probably don’t want to take it on the Great Loop, but it sure would be fun to drive the new Technohull 47 Omega flagship around Miami, or Catalina, or Block Island. Wherever you’re going, you probably won’t be late. Indeed, with four 450-hp Mercury Racing outboards, the new Technohull is said to hit a top speed of about 80 knots. Technohull has been making high-end RIBs in Greece since 2004. The 47 combines high-speed performance with a superyacht finish, and it has the company’s largest cabin yet; it includes a large double V berth, a full-height shower and lots…

AB Inflatables Introduces Two New Jet Tenders

AB Inflatables just introduced two new jet boats at the Fort Lauderdale show, an 11-foot model and a 15-foot model. AB’s XP series features an open deck so you can move around the boat easily and safely; they also maximize space while optimizing stability and promoting efficient weight distribution. The 350XP (above) is powered by a BRP-Rotax 90-hp jet and has a top speed of 37 knots. It holds five people, weighs 761 pounds, and carries 11 gallons of fuel. And it…

Williams Adding New 13-Foot RIB with Diesel Power

With the expansion of the explorer and semi-displacement cruising market, Williams Jet Tenders is adding a new 13’ 5” Dieseljet 415 to its lineup of premium RIBs. The new Dieseljet will be launched in January, and the British builder says it would be appropriate as a tender for cruising boats in the 75-foot range. The new Williams RIB, of course, has many other uses as an all-around sport boat or second boat in its own right. The new Dieseljet 415 is powered by a 110-hp Yanmar 4JH diesel, paired with Williams’ own jet pump drive. It tops out at 40…

All-Electric Pure Outboard Gets Major Funding

Will your next RIB be powered by an all-electric outboard? It will indeed, if Andy Rebele, the founder and CEO of Pure Watercraft in Seattle, has anything to say about it. Started in 2011, Pure just got a major infusion of cash, some $23.4 million in Series A funding, to expand its Pure Outboard business. The funding was led by L37 Ventures, a San Francisco venture capital firm that specializes in disrupting markets, with help from some Amazon executives and others. The new money will let Pure expand its operations in Seattle. It has already been beta testing its first…

New Protector 410: Redesigned Inside and Out

Protector has launched its new and improved 410 Targa flagship, with a fresh hull design for better performance and a new cabin for more creature comforts. With three 450-hp outboards, the new super-strong RIB tops out at about 70 mph, while maintaining Protector’s reputation for superb rough-water performance. For the new 410, the New Zealand company has widened the hull by 14 inches, using a winged flare to increase the interior space and improve the walk-through area. It extended the deep-V hull all the way aft for cutting through the rough stuff; it has an 18-degree deadrise at the transom.…

New Technohull 40 Explorer RIB Launched in Miami; See Video

The first new Greek-made Technohull 40 Explorer has just been delivered to an owner in the United States, and the sleek, black, 70-mph RIB is getting noticed in Miami Beach. (You can see a video of the boat in Miami by clicking on the link at the end of this story.) Actually, the Technohull 40 is more than a day boat. Under the console it has a double…

Fontaine Designs New Surfari 50 Rigid Hull Hybrid RIB

Here’s a creative new boat that’s bound to turn some heads when it’s launched: The Surfari 50 Rigid Hull Hybrid Inflatable from the Friendship Yacht Company in Middletown, Rhode Island, an all-around coastal cruiser with an attitude. Ted Fontaine, president of the Fontaine Design Group and Friendship, designed the boat for a client who had a Protector 41 but wanted a larger boat that would carry him to his favorite beaches and surfing spots on Block Island, Martha’s Vineyard, and the eastern end of Long Island. New Walker Bay Venture 16 RIB; Luxury Sport Tender

Walker Bay is launching its new Venture 16, and the company calls it the world’s first 16-foot luxury sport tender RIB. The new V16 is much more than a sport tender, however. You can use it for exploring, fishing, diving or just about anything else you can do on an all-around 16-foot runabout. The V16 offers three driving positions. Its flip-up bolster seats create room for standing or elevated seating, in addition to the regular seated position. Its hydraulic, tilt steering wheel and a top-mounted throttle make all three positions comfortable for the driver, while the wide rear seat with…

Williams To Launch New Luxurious Evojet Tender at Düsseldorf

The new Williams Evojet tender just looks like fun. Williams will launch the Evojet, its largest and most luxurious tender yet, at the Düsseldorf show, starting Jan. 18. Judging by the pictures, it’s bound to be a hit. This almost 23-feet-long tender is the first in Williams’ new Evojet series, and it’s big enough to hold a crowd, with seating for 13, and small enough to serve as a couple’s dayboat or runabout. Williams has designed the Evojet as a large yacht tender, but it just as easily could be a second boat or a sport boat in its own…
