Nordhavn Launches First New 625

Hull number one of the new Nordhavn 625 series was launched and successfully sea-trialed near the South Coast yard in Taiwan in December. It’s now on its way to the Nordhavn headquarters in Dana Point, California, where it will be commissioned soon and delivered to its owners, a couple from Nevada. The new 625 fits right in with the Nordhavn fleet of long-range cruisers that has only been growing in number and reputation since the company’s 40-footer cruised around the world in 2001 and 2002. Its hull is based on the Nordhavn 60, with a nod to the 55 and…

It’s taken a while, but a retired couple from Alaska are now living their dream, having just taken delivery of their new Nordhavn 41 in Turkey and cruised 400 miles to Athens, Greece. They’ve left the boat there for the winter, but will return before long to start their five-year plan of cruising through Europe and then bringing the boat back to the U.S. and all the  way up to their home port of Palmer, Alaska. The boat, named Meraki, is owned by Jan and Tom Newman, who both say they love being on the water Tom grew up in…

Nordhavn 40 “Embracing Life” Crosses Atlantic

On Tuesday, Philippe Guglielmetti, 50, landed in Barcelona, Spain, some 4,300 nm from his starting point in Miami, on his Nordhavn 40 Embracing Life. An Atlantic crossing is a major event for anyone, but particularly for Guglielmetti, who has been in a wheelchair since May, 2015, when he suffered a hemorrhagic stroke. An adventuresome spirit, Guglielmetti, who lives next to a canal in Miami, wanted to cross the ocean on his own boat. He bought the Nordhavn, a 2001 model, in February, and had it outfitted so he could be comfortable on board, adding a helm chair, active stabilizers and…

Nordhavn Building New 71 for Owner-Operators

Nordhavn is now building hull number one of its totally new 71-foot passagemaker designed for owner-operators to be able to cross oceans or go just about anywhere else they have in mind. It’s been about two years since Nordhavn started thinking about the 71, and the company has been talking to its owners and working on the design and engineering with its in-house Computational Fluid Dynamics program. The idea was to fill a hole in the Nordhavn lineup at the upper end of the mid-size range, for owners who want to move up in size but still run the boat…

After Stroke, Nordhavn Owner To Cross Atlantic

In May, 2015, Philippe Guglielmetti, who was then running a 3-D printing business in San Francisco, was taking a vacation in Paris. He suffered a hemorrhagic stroke; it was so bad that when he got to the hospital he could only move a finger. Now, after years of rehab, therapy and a spirit that doesn’t know how to quit, Guglielmetti is starting a trip from his new home in Miami across the Atlantic on his 2001 Nordhavn 40, appropriately named Embracing Life. He’s not only going across the Atlantic, to Lisbon, but he’s making a roundtrip, coming back to New…

Nordhavn Holds Largest Rendezvous Yet

Nordhavn just held its largest owners’ rendezvous yet, with 48 boats and the owners of 19 more attending the five-day gathering at Victoria International Marina on Vancouver Island, British Columbia. Victoria is a popular location because of its proximity to the San Juan Islands, prime cruising grounds in their own right. The Victoria rendezvous also served as the start of the season for boats heading farther north up the Inside Passage to Alaska, another favorite destination for the owners of Nordhavns and many, many other cruising boats. Nordhavns of all sizes were represented in Victoria; indeed, 16 different models lined…

Red Rover, Nordhavn 55, Reaches 20,000 nm

In case there’s any doubt, Kevin and Allison Jeffries are indeed long-range cruisers. In fact, they just raised their 20,000 nm Nordhavn distance pennant while they were cruising from Huatulco to Chiapas off the Pacific coast of Mexico near the Guatemalan border. Lifelong boaters, the Jeffries have been cruising ever since they bought their Nordhavn 55, Red Rover, in 2016, sold their house in Seattle and moved aboard full time with their two rescue dogs, Zoe and Max. Their children were grown, and they wanted to take on a cruising lifestyle. Red Rover is 2005 Nordhavn 55 (hull number 05),…
